Why Uncle BigBay?

I get this question a lot. Here's the story, sparked by a simple ask on X and at speaking events.

Tweet from Helen Dee (@_devHelen): Nice to meet you Sam! Curious though, what inspired your other name (Uncle BigBay)

The nickname

In Nigeria, many names have natural short forms. Samuel becomes Sam, and Adebayo becomes Bay.

When I was younger, I was a big kid (peek at the spoiler below), so people started calling me “Big Bay.”

As I grew older, my niece and younger relatives wouldn't use that name directly out of respect. It slowly became “Uncle BigBay.”

That name stuck and here we are.

Why I use it as my brand

Ayodele, Samuel, and Adebayo are everywhere. Online, it's easy to blur into the crowd when your name matches half the search results.

Uncle BigBay is mine, distinctive, easier to find, easier to remember.
