Unclebigbay and Friends so Far

Hello my gorgeous friends on the internet, how are you doing today? ๐Ÿ˜

Today's challenge makes it the 10th task of the Unclebigbay and Friends series ๐Ÿ’ƒ.

What do you mean?

Unclebigbay and Friends is a community of developers who come together with the mindset to learn, teach and guide others. If you have not heard or participated in this challenge you can check out the previous tasks Here

What do you do exactly?

In order to help one another in the journey of becoming a better programmer our activities include the following ๐Ÿ‘‡

1. Daily and Weekly tasks

Practice! Practice!! Practice!!! they say is the key to getting better at what one does, in order to be better at coding, tasks are published on a daily basis for members to complete and submit in the comment section of the challenge post here on hashnode.

Every member is always ready to render help on the Unclebigbay and Friend Whatsapp group to anyone having difficulties completing any of the tasks.

2. Weekly meetup from 7 pm to 9 pm on Saturdays.

We hold virtual meetups for every Saturday to discuss related programming topics, and how we can serve ourselves better in the journey of becoming the best version of ourselves.

3. Peer Programming

We engage in group coding during our meetup to help fix a bug or to help a friend understand a concept, I usually volunteer to meet with any member having difficulties with any of their challenges or other projects during the week.

4. Project Review

We encourage and ask members that are willing to share projects they are working on, then we review it together, and also give feedback to help them make it much better.

5. Project Presentation

At the end of the day, we all know how to make code works in one way or the other, but the question is do we even know how to explain and sell what we spend a long hour doing to the world?

This is why we included a session for project presentation, where individuals who have worked on a project will present what they have and others will be the judge and also act as the clients.

I have seen a few people getting comfortable presenting their works to others after doing it once.

Doesn't matter how complex or not your project is, there is no simple or small project, I have presented a random quote generator website before ๐Ÿ˜Ž

6. Discussion

Coding! coding!! coding!! That's not all we do, we also share our experience, thought and feedback, so other people can learn from our mistakes and smartness, which is really something I personally enjoy, we get to know each other better and talk about our mental health and finally letting one another know it's not a crime to copy and paste code as long as you figure out why it worked, deep sigh at the end ๐Ÿ˜.

Final Thoughts

unclebigbay and friends came into existence for 3 reasons.

  1. For support and helping people not make too many mistakes that someone else has made before.

  2. Because I am an introvert and know how difficult communication and presentation were when I started it (still not easy though), and a lot of people generally do not know it is important as a developer.

  3. Giving back to the community.

This is a recap of what we've been doing since we started as a group of friends, I hope this helps someone in one way or the other.

Thanks a lot for reading this far.
